Graduate transfer Donaven McCulley has been making waves in the wide receivers room this spring, putting him high up on the radars of Michigan fans ready to see him in action this fall. It was recently announced that McCulley will be wearing the number one on his jersey, furthering the excitement of an already hyped up fanbase.

In his four years at Indiana prior to coming to Michigan, McCulley had 15 starts, including four at quarterback during his freshman year, where he completed 35-of-82 pass attempts, for a total of 475 yards, resulting in two touchdowns. For his sophomore through senior seasons, he made the switch to wide receiver, showing off his talents before his senior season saw a decline in playing time. Since transferring to Michigan, he has made his talents known, and is expected to start come fall.

Wide Receivers Wearing the Number One at Michigan Have a Legendary History

McCulley joins a long line of Michigan legends, particularly wide receivers, who have worn the number one, including current Pittsburgh Steeler Roman Wilson. Other Michigan wide receivers who wore the number one include Devin Funchess, Braylon Edwards, David Terrell, Derrick Alexander, and Anthony Carter, all of whom went on to play in the NFL.

It stands to reason that, even with just one year of eligibility remaining at Michigan, McCulley could have an insane season. With the number one, and a line of Michigan receivers at his back who also wore the legendary jersey, dating back to the 1970s and the Bo Schembechler era, there’s no limit to what McCulley could potentially accomplish this season.
