Michigan football has been named a finalist for a blue chip recruit out of California following his official visit this month.

Today, blue-chip four-star safety Marquis Gallegos announced his top 5 remaining schools and Michigan football made the cut. For the Maize and Blue, landing this sought-after four-star recruit would go a long way in the 2024 recruiting class; however, the Wolverines have some tough competition.

Michigan football named a finalist for major four-star California safety Marquis Gallegos

Earlier this month, four-star safety Marquis Gallegos was in Ann Arbor for an official visit. It doesn’t seem like the Maize and Blue have the lead at the moment; however, the visit went well enough that the Wolverines are still in the running ahead of Gallegos’s commitment announcement.

Marquis Gallegos is a four-star safety in the 2024 recruiting class and ranks as the No. 161 recruit in the nation, the No. 13 safety in the class, and the No. 9 recruit in the state of California, according to ON3.

While the Maize and Blue remain in contention for his commitment, Michigan football has some stout competition. The Wolverines are joined in his top 5 by a few notable programs, such as USC, Oregon, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. According to the Recruiting Prediction Machine, Michigan football is currently in fourth place, with the USC Trojans maintaining a significant lead, which makes sense considering Marquis Gallegos is a California prospect.

“Michigan has the biggest winning culture in college football and with a veteran coach like Harbaugh you know what you’re going to get out of them and that’s competing for a national championship,” Gallegos said of the Michigan football program, according to Hayes Fawcett.
