The reporting surrounding the Michigan football scandal has been a bit all over the place, especially when entities like ESPN and FOX are both seemingly delivering two separate messages. Today, on the Paul Finebaum Show, ESPN analyst Rece Davis had a strong message for those who are doubting his network’s coverage of the sign-stealing allegations, even stating that no one is “out to get Jim Harbaugh.”

Analyst has strong message amid Michigan football scandal coverage

If you talk to just about anyone in the Michigan football fan base, they would tell you that ESPN’s coverage of Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines’ alleged sign-stealing scandal has been sub-par and one-sided. If you talk to a rival fan base, they would tell you the opposite. That’s how it has been on social media as well, with everyone either pushing a narrative or looking to flip the narrative.

What did Rece Davis say today?

Rece Davis, an analyst for ESPN, has seen plenty of doubt and is clearly tired of people questioning coverage of Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan football scandal.

“I try to be above the fray with that kind of stuff. But, when I hear things like that, I do want to grab a handful of mashed potatoes and sling it in anybody’s direction who’s willing to take it in the face. … It’s a ridiculous narrative. The people we have covering this story are seasoned journalists whose credibility matters to them. The idea that this is slanted in some way because we’re out to get Jim Harbaugh is ridiculous.

“Nobody is out to get (Jim Harbaugh). He’s responsible for what goes on in his program. It may not be his fault. It is most certainly his responsibility,” Davis added. “That’s just life. It’s always the boss’ fault.”

With potential punishment coming for Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh on Wednesday — or later — Wolverines fans must sit patiently and wait for the time being. Regardless, No. 3 Michigan is slated to face No. 9 Penn State this weekend in what is sure to be a thrilling Big Ten matchup in Happy Valley.
