Last year, Jesse Minter commanded what may have been the best Michigan football defense ever assembled, which played a huge role in leading the Wolverines to a 15-0 national title season. This fall, however, Michigan has a new head coach, and a new DC, and just lost another key piece of the puzzle to the transfer portal: standout safety Keon Sabb.

Last year, Keon Sabb sat behind two of the Big Ten’s best safeties — Makari Paige and Rod Moore — though still got some notable reps and playing time. While he wasn’t quite a starter, he was cause for tons of high praise and excitement throughout Ann Arbor, and with some injuries throughout the year, he showed exactly why the staff and locker room were so excited about his impact.

Heading into the weekend, Keon Sabb made things official when it comes to his entry into the NCAA transfer portal — he is now in search of a new home. Last fall, Keon Sabb appeared in 14 of the Wolverines’ 15 games, making five starts at safety. He recorded 28 tackles, two interceptions, and six pass deflections en route to his second varsity letter in football at the University of Michigan in 2023.
