This year’s Michigan football secondary is one of the best in the nation; the Wolverines’ defensive backfield has some of the best weapons in all of college football. One of these top-ranked players is safety Rod Moore, who has been graded as one of the top safeties in the nation and is heading into a season full of massive expectations.

Michigan football safety looking to stand out in 2023

Last season was the first chance that Rod Moore had to shine and he did. Michigan football saw a rock-solid season from Moore, so much so that he earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors by season’s end. Additionally, he was named Michigan’s special teams rookie of the year last fall, earning his second varsity letter.

During the 2022 season, Rod Moore appeared in 14 games as a standout for the Maize and Blue, recording 71 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and seven passes defended. Heading into his junior season, Michigan football is looking for even bigger and better from Moore as the Wolverines push for a third-straight Big Ten title and more.

“I know here in June and July, we’re going to try to do a lot of unit meetings, especially the back seven to make sure we’re all on the same page,” Rod Moore said, per The Michigan Insider. “Then in defensive meetings, just refreshing everything, making sure everybody knows this is the year to go for the (national championship).

“(Individually), it’s most definitely different from last year,” he added. “I still have the same hunger I did (last season), but it’s kind of more because I know, this could be the year that could change my life.”

Big things are coming for the Maize and Blue and Rod Moore

Rod Moore is already being hailed as one of the best safeties in the nation right now, and if the Wolverines are to make strides towards winning a national title, Michigan football heavily relies on Moore to live up to the expectations.
