We are just 66 days away from the Michigan football season and another outlet, Athlon Sports, has projected the Wolverines to the playoff.

The 2024 Michigan football season is right around the corner. Fall camp starts in little over a month and the first game is now just 66 days away.

I have gone on record with my bold predictions saying that Michigan football will make the first rendition of the 12-team College Football Playoff.

The schedule is difficult. There is also lots of roster/coaching turnover, but Michigan still has more than enough talent to get back to the playoff. According to the Blue Chip Ratio, Michigan has enough to be a national title contender as the number of blue chips was about the same as when U-M won it all.

Michigan football projected to make the playoff again

Elite quarterback J.J. McCarthy made the difference. So did an elite coaching staff. Looking ahead to 2024, the defense will be elite once again. Michigan football might have the best defensive line in the country, which is a good starting point, as well as the best cornerback in Will Johnson.

There are questions at quarterback. But I have confidence that Sherrone Moore and Kirk Campbell will find a way to make it work. Athlon Sports certainly believes that Michigan won’t have a huge dropoff from last season.

The Wolverines were projected to make the first 12-team College Football Playoff by Athlon as the No. 9 seed. Their opponent in the first round would be the same as the 2023 CFP — Alabama. Of course, that game was in the Rose Bowl. This would be in Tuscaloosa.

Still, I’d sign up for that outcome today. If you are in the College Football Playoff, you at least have a chance.
