Between the Lines: Hage powers Michigan past Ohio State in overtime
Michigan came back from a late deficit to beat Ohio State 5-4 in overtime Sunday in Columbus, salvaging a weekend split after Saturday’s loss. Michael Hage had a hand in all five goals, Malcolm Spence tied the game with 72 seconds left in regulation, and Adam Valentini scored the winner with 43 seconds remaining in overtime.
The Wolverines improved to 8-1, but the third period reminded everyone how quickly a game can turn. Michigan twice led in the final 20 minutes before Ohio State scored a shorthanded goal and took a 4-3 advantage with 2:22 to play.
Game Summary
Michigan finished with 32 shots on goal to Ohio State’s 27 and won 36 of 60 faceoffs. Those margins were enough for a win, but the Buckeyes scored three third-period goals and nearly completed a weekend sweep.

What the weekend revealed
Michigan’s offensive talent pulled it out of danger, but the third-period lapse and the special-teams goals against were costly. Sunday gave the Wolverines a conference road win, a weekend split and plenty to review before their next game.
08 The Takeaway
Michigan’s offensive talent rescued a game that could easily have been lost. Hage’s creation and Spence’s finishing were exceptional, but the third-period goals against — including a shorthanded equalizer — left plenty to examine after the weekend split. The Wolverines showed they can respond to adversity; they’ll want to avoid creating so much of it themselves.
