Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding the Michigan football sign-stealing scandal, the Wolverines have received some good news in the past week. The NCAA investigation will reportedly take longer than this season to finish and the College Football Playoff committee still ranked the Wolverines third overall despite the ongoing investigation. Still, one factor that could play a part in the Wolverines season is the Big Ten Conference. According to an ESPN source, the majority of Big Ten coaches are in agreement that the Big Ten should punish the Wolverines.

Big Ten coaches urge the conference to enforce punishment on Michigan football

College football insider Pete Thamel, who has been covering the sign-stealing controversy from the beginning, reported that Big Ten coaches recently joined a call to urge Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti to punish Michigan football. Thamel’s post on X says that the “vast majority” of coaches favored a conference punishment for Michigan per an ESPN source.

At this point in time, it is unclear what a punishment for Michigan football would look like as the Wolverines scandal moves further and further into uncharted territory. With the NCAA and College Football Playoff committee seemingly waiting to make a decision until next year, the ball is in the court of the Big Ten conference to make a decision for the 2023 season.

For the immediate future, Michigan football is taking things one game at a time and preparing for their next home game against Purdue. Kickoff is set for 7:30 EST this Saturday.
