Blake Corum has had a stellar career as the star tailback for the Michigan Wolverines football team. Over the past two seasons, his presence in Michigan’s backfield has led the way to two straight Big Ten titles and College Football Playoff appearances. These impressive performances have also positioned him as a top NFL Draft target and a player to watch in the 2023 Heisman Trophy race. In a recent interview with MLive, Corum fueled the Wolverines’ national championship-caliber expectations heading into the new season.

Blake Corum adds to the hype surrounding the 2023 team

According to Michigan football star running back Blake Corum, the 2023 roster could very well be Jim Harbaugh’s best team since taking over as head coach in 2014. Over the past eight seasons, the Maize and Blue have witnessed their fair share of impressive performances — Michigan has had five 10-win seasons, won two Big Ten titles, and appeared in the College Football Playoff twice during Jim Harbaugh’s tenure.

That said, on paper, this is the best Michigan Wolverines football team that Ann Arbor has seen in quite some time. “I think this is coach Harbaugh’s best team,” Blake Corum said, according to MLive.

A new draft record for the Michigan Wolverines football program,?

After the 2023 season, several Michigan football starters, including Blake Corum, will be eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft. Judging by the current situation, this year’s team has the potential to set a record for the most players drafted, and Corum is well aware of it.

“He might have said we could break the record with the number of people drafted in this upcoming draft,” Blake Corum continued. “I believe him. We have a great team; we have a lot of great returning players and a lot of great additions. I’m excited to see what we can do.”

JJ McCarthy and the passing attack are looking dangerous

Over the past two seasons, the Wolverines’ rushing attack has been dominant. However, in the final three games of the 2022 Michigan football season, then-sophomore quarterback JJ McCarthy showed significant growth and took charge, leading his team to a monumental win over Ohio State and a commanding 21-point victory in the Big Ten title game. Looking ahead to the 2023 season, Corum anticipates that McCarthy’s development and confidence will continue to soar, propelling the Maize and Blue to even greater heights this year.

“Towards the end of the year, especially the Ohio State game, we started airing it out,” Corum said. “It gave J.J. the confidence that he needed. It allowed the world to see what J.J. can do. If you give J.J. another year under his belt, it’s just going to be more diverse.”
