Hit Connor Stalions‘ music!

The former Michigan football analyst will return to the sidelines this fall as the defensive coordinator for Detroit Mumford High School, according to the The Detroit News.

“I got the most hated man in college football right now, Connor Stalions,” Mumford head coach William McMichael told The News. “He’s my defensive coordinator.”

If you thought running an illegal sign-stealing operation that was the biggest story in sports last year could keep a man down, you were dead wrong.

All of this begs the question: Is it officially Stalions Summer? I mean, he already landed a Netflix doc & a 4.98 rating on Cameo across 130 reviews at $70+ a pop. Now, he’s on his way to being the biggest story in high school football as he repairs the 1-8 Mumford defense overnight.

So, what’s the plan for him at Mumford?

Why Mumford hired Connor Stallions

In the report from The News, McMichael explained why he decided to bring Stalions to Detroit.

“He’s outstanding. I think he knows Michigan’s defense just as well as anyone else who was there with (former defensive coordinator Jesse) Minter and all of those guys,” he said. “He’s great with the kids, has an outstanding football mind and we’re learning a lot — not just the kids, but the coaching staff.

“He’s a great addition to what we’re doing. He can help prepare the kids for college. They are learning the lingo, how they practice college and how they break down film, so it gives the kids an advantage.”

This will be McMichael’s first season at Mumford. He spent 30 years as an assistant, including several at Belleville, where he first met Stalions after Michigan recruited one of his players, Jeremiah Beasley (now at Missouri).

Initial impressions on Stalions from his new boss

Despite all the noise surrounding his decision to hire Stalions, McMichael has zero doubt he made the right choice.

“I’m not worried about it,” McMichael said. “What happened with the NCAA doesn’t concern us here at Mumford. He comes here every day and gives 120%, and the kids all love him and we’re all learning from him.”

Mumford finished the last two seasons with one win a piece (1-8 in 2023, 1-9 in 2022), so it’s a total rebuild for the new staff.

Stalions will have a chance to prove he belongs in a headset this fall.

Maybe this is just another chapter in The Manifesto.
