Though the quarterback battle has largely come down to redshirt sophomore Jadyn Davis and incoming freshman Bryce Underwood, at least in the spring, there’s no denying the mark fifth-year Davis Warren has already made on the position at large going into the 2025 season.
It’s highly unlikely that he’ll see any snaps during the regular season, but Warren’s perseverance and leadership presence on the team will undoubtedly carry over to all of this year’s QB contenders in their hopes to succeed him for the position. On top of the legacy he’s left in his wake coming off of the 2024 season, Warren’s continued presence on the 2025 roster will only continue to add to that legacy this fall.
Warren Left Some Pretty Big Shoes to Fill at the End of 2024
Against all odds, Warren came out on top of a hard fought battle for the starting position in 2024—a battle that he won at the start of the season, but had to continually fight well into the season, too. Warren started in nine of thirteen games in 2024, and endured quite a bit of criticism in the middle of the season, resulting in him losing the starting job to Alex Orji for a few games, and Jack Tuttle as his replacement in the Illinois game, as well.
Warren didn’t allow any of the hardship and struggles deter him, though. He started in each of the last two games of the season, leading the Wolverines to win the two that counted the most: defeating Ohio State in their own territory, and beating Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl, a team many believed should’ve been given a playoff bid.
Warren’s presence in the locker room and on the roster in 2025 will absolutely go beyond the field, knowing with pretty much absolute certainty that he won’t be starting at all this season. His tenacity in the face of adversity and his dedication to the program, however, have solidified his status as a true legend in Michigan football history—something that can never be taken away from him.
