How will the current sign-stealing Michigan football scandal pan out for the Wolverines? Who is to say. Still, ex-Michigan Heisman Trophy winner (1991) Desmond Howard managed to detail his thoughts on the matter during the Wolverines’ bye week.

The Michigan football scandal involving alleged illegal sign-stealing tactics by Connor Stalions has taken the world of college football by storm. Today, ex-Wolverine legend Demond Howard, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1991 when he was playing for Lloyd Carr in Ann Arbor, detailed his thoughts on everything and how things may pan out for the Maize and Blue.

“This is something that a lot of programs, they try to do,” said ex-Michigan football Heisman winner Desmond Howard on ESPN’s College Football Live. “I mean, why would you not? You have some three quarterbacks on the sideline signaling plays. It’s almost as if the offensive coordinator dares you to try to decode their system. I was actually surprised. I didn’t even know there was a rule against scouting because we’ve always scouted teams from high school to college to the NFL. So I didn’t even know there was a rule.”

“Rouge” likely caused the issue, Howard says

Desmond Howard also pointed the finger at Connor Stalions, who is currently in the middle of this investigation, as being a “rogue” who acted on his own.

“But with that being said, it seems as though something has happened with this rogue individual who went to stadiums and looked at the other team’s signals,” Howard added. “We’re gonna see. Jim Harbaugh said he’s going to cooperate fully. The athletic director — Warde Manuel — he pretty much said the same thing. So we’ll see where it goes from here.”

Unlike other media members, Desmond Howard is likely taking the smartest possible approach here — wait and see how things play out. Michigan football is yet to formally receive notice of allegations from the NCAA, and for the time being, not much can be done from anyone’s perspective until more information is released to the public — not including “anonymous” sources and leaks via an ESPN report.

With time, all will become much clearer for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines amidst scandal.
