A season of destiny turned into a season of despair for the Detroit Lions on Saturday. Once Super Bowl favorites, the Lions succumbed to their injuries and fell to the Washington Commanders 45-31 in the divisional round of playoffs. The Pride have already started shaping their roster for next season, and on Tuesday they brought in former Michigan WR Ronnie Bell on a futures contract.

Ronnie Bell signs futures contract with Detroit Lions

A futures contract simply means Bell won’t technically be on the roster or effect the salary cap until the beginning of the next league year (March 12). Bell played in 17 games for the San Francisco 49ers as a rookie in 2023 and nine in 2024. In his career he’s totaled eight catches on 19 targets for 90 yards and three touchdowns. All of his touchdowns came as a rookie.

The Lions are in search of a new offensive coordinator, and they could look much different on that side of the ball going forward. Bell would be in the same wide receiver room as first team All-Pro Amon-Ra St. Brown, as well as Jameson Williams.
