Today, the Detroit Lions (9-3) and Chicago Bears (4-8) face off at Soldier in Chicago, IL. During the game, former Michigan football superstar Aidan Hutchinson — the 2021 Heisman Trophy runner-up — sacked ex-Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, earning his 16th career sack through less than two full seasons in the NFL. This 16th sack set a new Lions record.

Former Michigan football superstar sets new Detroit Lions record

Previously, the Detroit Lions franchise record for sacks through two career seasons was set at 15.5 (Ezekiel Ansah). Today, Former Michigan football star Aidan Hutchinson, who also holds a number of impressive records at the University of Michigan, especially from his incredible run in 2021, is the new holder of this Lions record.

Aidan Hutchinson off to a hot start in the NFL

Throughout his first two years with Detroit, Aidan Hutchinson is now at 16 career sacks. While his production this year is not quite what it was as a rookie, Hutchinson is still at 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, an interception, and more. Additionally, the Lions are 9-3 right now — their best record since the early 1960s.

Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done for the former Michigan football legend, especially since Detroit’s defense has been a major issue throughout the season. That said, things are going well so far for the second-year NFL edge rusher as he continues to set new records — both for the franchise and for the league as a whole.
