JJ McCarthy will be remembered as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Michigan football history, ending his career with a 27-1 record as a starter with two Big Ten championships and a national title. With the NFL Draft just two months away, mock drafts continue to evolve as players prepare to go pro. Recently, former Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy has seen his draft stock steadily improving, with the latest NFL.com mock draft placing him as the No. 8 overall pick in the draft.

While McCarthy found plenty of success at Michigan, his stats are not nearly as eye-popping as the other quarterbacks in the first-round conversation. Michigan football stuck to a winning formula of old-school football which did not allow McCarthy to throw for as many touchdowns as he potentially could.

Still, McCarthy finished his two seasons as a starter with 52 total touchdowns and only nine interceptions. In his final year, McCarthy completed 72.3% of his passes, averaging nine yards per attempt.

When McCarthy declared for the NFL Draft, his draft stock seemed to float in the late first-round to early second-round range. But ever since the season ended, McCarthy’s draft stock has been steadily increasing, and Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft for NFL.com has JJ McCarthy being taken No. 8 overall to the Atlanta Falcons.

Despite climbing into the top 10, McCarthy is just the fourth quarterback taken in this draft, with Caleb Williams (USC), Drake Maye (North Carolina), and Jayden Daniels (LSU) all being drafted earlier.

This year’s draft could see a record number of Wolverines sent to the NFL. The NFL draft will take place April 25-27 in Detroit, MI.
