After Jim Harbaugh left Ann Arbor for the NFL, one of the Wolverines’ top commits in the 2024 recruiting class — four-star Jaden Smith — decommitted from U-M. Now, the former Michigan football commit plans on playing in the SEC with the Kentucky Wildcats.

Michigan football is under new leadership with Sherrone Moore being promoted to head coach following the Wolverines’ 2023-24 national title campaign. While Moore plans on emphasizing recruiting in Ann Arbor, Jaden Smith was one of the first commits in Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class to leave despite signing his NLI when Harbaugh was still in town.

Jaden Smith is a four-star linebacker, ranking as the No. 19 linebacker nationally and the No. 12 player in the state of North Carolina for the 2024 recruiting class. Despite his prior commitment to Michigan football, Smith announced this week that he plans on playing for the Kentucky Wildcats in the SEC.

Smith joins Kentucky’s No. 25-ranked recruiting class nationally (No. 13 in the conference) and sits alongside another ex-Michigan target: Brian Robinson, a four-star edge rusher.
