Heading into his second season at Michigan with fans on a high note with equally high expectations, Dusty May’s biggest obstacle was going to be finding a big man. This morning, the answer to all of Dusty’s Center-centered problems showed up in the form of UAB transfer, Yaxel Lendeborg, who was the highest ranked big man in the transfer portal.

New: Yaxel Lendeborg commits to Michigan while staying open to NBA

With his two star seven-footers, Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf, both leaving for the league, Coach May needed a replacement Center, and fast. Lendeborg should be a huge asset to the Wolverines squad, and is a great land from the portal.

Yaxel Lendeborg Chose Michigan for Dusty May’s Culture

The 6 ‘9 fifth year was a hot commodity in the transfer portal; with all the chaos presented by the portal, there were many teams with their eyes and hearts set on Lendeborg coming to play for them. Dusty May has been on fire when it comes to recruiting transfers though, with Lendeborg being his third major pickup from the top six ranked players in the portal overall.

In his senior season at UAB, Lendeborg averaged a double-double per game with 17.7 points and 11.4 rebounds. According to ESPN, Lendeborg “Loves the culture Dusty May has brought to every team that he’s coached.” This is a common theme felt throughout the NCAA, and is likely why Dusty May has achieved the #2 transfer portal class in the nation.

Coach May has certainly made an impression on Lendeborg, and barring any major shifts, it stands to reason that Lendeborg will be coming to play in Ann Arbor for one more season before he takes his talents to the NBA. The way he handcrafted his first season’s roster, and with the way he’s trending towards a similarly handpicked roster for year two, Dusty May is showing no signs of stopping his war path anytime soon.
