No. 20 Michigan men’s basketball (13-3, 5-0 Big Ten) is tied with No. 12 Michigan State (14-2, 5-0 Big Ten) at the top of the Big Ten about halfway through the season. The Wolverines are on a five game win streak after dominating Washington 91-75 Sunday. The conference tournament begins on March 12, but head coach Dusty May said he isn’t looking too far ahead.

Dusty May on winning the Big Ten

“We’re just moving forward trying to get to the next thing,” May said at a press conference Monday. “The Big Ten championship, we’re trying to compete for, but we’re not talking about it at all.”

In May’s first season at the helm, Michigan basketball is back among the elite. The Big Ten and the SEC are the only Division I conferences with zero teams under .500. May said he knew his team was special long before the season began.

“… Before the season, we liked our team,” May said. “I’m not someone that just says I think we can do this if I don’t believe it. I do err on the side of really appreciating our players and our staff and believing in them. There might be a little bit of bias, because they’re the guys on your team, but yeah, we felt like we had a group that could compete with anyone in the country.”
