The first weekend of June is going to be huge for Michigan football recruiting as five players ranked in the top 150 of the On3 Industry Rankings will be on campus for official visits.
Five-star wideout Derek Meadows is among them. So is top-100 offensive lineman Douglas Utu, as well as top-100 safety Kainoa Winston.
Utu released a list of six teams that he is focused on. Michigan football is among them along with Nebraska, Tennessee, Washington, Alabama, and Oregon. The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder ranked 67th overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, will be on campus in Ann Arbor this weekend.
The interior lineman is elite, ranked No. 2 at his position. His recruitment feels wide open but the Wolverines seem to have as good a shot as anyone. Utu is out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. That’s one of the best high school programs in the country and U-M would be getting an elite prospect with huge upside.
Top-100 safety has Michigan in top four
Kainoa Winston, out of Washington, D.C. narrowed his list of top teams even further, cutting down to four. Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, and North Carolina are the finalists.
Penn State is the current leader according to the On3 prediction machine. However, that lead is slight and we’ll see where things stand in about a month. Michigan football is hosting Winston for a visit this weekend. Then, he’ll visit Penn State, Oregon, and North Carolina last.
Penn State feels like the top contender for the player from the DMV, but the visit this weekend could change that. Winston said he liked the Michigan football defense, but Oregon insiders felt good about the Ducks’ chances back in March and Penn State can’t be counted out.
