This weekend’s Michigan football-Ohio State matchup has tons of interesting narratives and storylines, and perhaps no matchup in “The Game” has ever been as important as Saturday’s will be for both teams. Ahead of the massive Big Ten bout, ESPN host Rece Davis of College GameDay explained a unique pick — one that may not actually be too far off all said and done.

Michigan football-Ohio State game could be a slugfest

Over the past few weeks, Michigan football and Ohio State have both struggled to move the ball, especially against quality defenses. The best team that the Wolverines and Buckeyes have faced so far this fall is Penn State — OSU scored 20 points, while Michigan scored 24.

ESPN host explains pick for this weekend’s matchup

Heading into Week 13, Ohio State has the No. 3 defense in the land, while Michigan football has the No. 1 defense. To Rece Davis, that will be a major factor in how this game is played.

“(Michigan football acting head coach) Sherrone Moore, at some point in his career, is going to be a head coach and has a chance to be a really good one. I think he’s done a nice job in really difficult circumstances,” Rece Davis explained on the ESPN College GameDay Podcast. “… They played Penn State and Maryland that really (gave) me concern.

“… I saw them not throw a pass in the second half. And now I wonder if it’s because we don’t think that we can stop edge rushers which Penn State has, and Penn State obviously loves to dial up pressure with Manny Diaz. I’m really concerned, and I started getting the gut feeling last Saturday watching Michigan and Maryland (and said) I think Ohio State’s going to win. But I’m not going to overthink this.”

Who is Rece Davis rolling with?

So, who is the famed ESPN host picking to win between Michigan football and Ohio State this weekend? Well, like many others, Daivs feels that the Wolverines are simply the better team right now, but knows there is a chance this game will get ugly.

“I’m going to say Michigan wins this game,” Rece Davis said. “I’m not even gonna say 21-17. That (would) mean there are too many clean drives. I’m going to say Michigan wins the game 20-16 and covers by (0.5 points) — so I’m gonna go with the Wolverines.”
