Future Michigan football opponent, the Oregon Ducks, will be joining the Big Ten in 2024 after the PAC-12 all but dissolves after being a major Power 5 conference and a core pillar of college football. Alongside Washington, USC, and UCLA, the Ducks are looking to start contending with Michigan and Ohio State for conference titles and playoff berths — even adding an elite quarterback from the transfer portal recently: Dillon Gabriel out of Oklahoma.

Future Michigan football opponent lands Dillon Gabriel from the transfer portal

When Dillon Gabriel hit the transfer portal after Oklahoma’s 9-3 season this fall, he immediately became one of the most important names in the college football transfer portal. Seeing as Oregon is losing Heisman contender Bo Nix, a fifth-year senior who has the Ducks at 11-2 right now, the addition of Gabriel could not have come at a better time.

Per the 2024 Michigan football schedule page, the Wolverines will be facing the Oregon Ducks and their new transfer portal quarterback on November 2 in Ann Arbor, MI — it will be the two teams’ first meeting after Oregon is officially moved to the Big Ten.

Oregon getting a new QB could be good and bad news for the Wolverines

This could be good and bad news for the Wolverines. The bad is pretty obvious — a future opponent just got a whole lot better and will likely be a conference contender next fall. On the flip side, however, Michigan football has been giving former five-star quarterback Dante Moore — another top-ranked quarterback in the transfer portal — a good look as of late. Seeing as Oregon was right next to Michigan as a leading contender for Moore, the Ducks’ new quarterback addition likely ends their pursuit of Dante Moore.

We shall see how Dillon Gabriel fairs at Oregon, though it is worth keeping an eye on if you’re a Michigan football fan as the Big Ten expands from 14 to 18 teams next fall.
