The 2023 Michigan football recruiting class has been quite successful thus far, as Jim Harbaugh has locked down many of the Wolverines’ top targets. Right now, Michigan has an impressive 26 hard commits and counting in the 2024 cycle. Today, an interesting bit of information came the Wolverines’ way: Four-star safety Jaylen Heyward, formerly one of the top targets for Jim Harbaugh in this class, has de-committed from the Georgia Bulldogs.
Former major Michigan football recruiting target de-commits from Georgia
Jaylen Heyward was a major Michigan football recruiting target in the 2024 cycle before he committed to Georgia. Now, Heyward is reportedly back on the market following a short stint of commitment to the Bulldogs, and there may be a chance that he has caught the eye of the Wolverines coaching staff.
According to many reports and sources, Heyward was being heavily pursued by the Maize and Blue not too long ago. The four-star Florida safety has a long list of offers from many of the nation’s elite programs. However, when the Wolverines come knocking, nearly every recruit will at least listen to what they have to say.
Michigan football currently has only one safety committed in the class, so if the Wolverines want to circle back to this major defensive target and make a strong late push, there is nothing stopping them. According to the On3 recruiting industry rankings, Jaylen Heyward is a major four-star target, ranked among the nation’s top 100. He comes in at No. 96 nationally, No. 5 among safeties in this class, and No. 13 among players in the state of Florida.
