Jim Harbaugh has replenished his 2023 roster through the transfer portal, making several elite additions. The Wolverines’ offense has never looked better, and Harbaugh seems to have addressed the depth concerns at tight end. AJ Barner, a former standout from Indiana, is a new Michigan football transfer tight end who appears ready to have a standout season this fall. He has been ranked as one of the top 5 offensive additions in the entire Big Ten conference.

According to recent rankings by Saturday Tradition, AJ Barner, the Michigan football transfer tight end, is considered one of the top 5 additions in the entire Big Ten conference. Barner brings an ideal skillset for the Wolverines’ offense and is expected to make a significant impact during conference play this fall.

AJ Barner stepping into a huge role for the Maize and Blue

After Michigan’s 2022 season, Erick All, a former team captain and top tight end, entered the transfer portal and joined Iowa. In addition, Luke Schoonmaker, who was the TE1 last year, decided to pursue a career in the NFL. These departures left Michigan football with only one true tight end threat: rising sophomore Colston Loveland. To address this issue, Jim Harbaugh brought in AJ Barner, a former standout tight end from Indiana, who is expected to seamlessly fit in with the Wolverines.

Barner is known for his receiving abilities, but his value extends beyond that. With his Big Ten experience and a substantial frame weighing over 265 pounds, he brings a physical presence to the team. While he will likely be involved in blocking duties more frequently, the Maize and Blue will greatly appreciate his contribution on the offensive side of the football in the upcoming fall season.
