Barner brings an ideal skillset for the Wolverines’ offense and is expected to make a significant impact during conference play this fall.

After Michigan’s 2022 season, Erick All, a former team captain and top tight end, entered the transfer portal and joined Iowa. In addition, Luke Schoonmaker, who was the TE1 last year, decided to pursue a career in the NFL. These departures left Michigan football with only one true tight end threat: rising sophomore Colston Loveland. To address this issue, Jim Harbaugh brought in AJ Barner, a former standout tight end from Indiana, who is expected to seamlessly fit in with the Wolverines.

Barner is known for his receiving abilities, but his value extends beyond that. With his Big Ten experience and a substantial frame weighing over 265 pounds, he brings a physical presence to the team.
