Michigan basketball lost talent this offseason with names like Hunter Dickinson, Jett Howard, and Kobe Bufkin all leaving. However, Juwan Howard is already pulling in the next wave of Michigan basketball stars for the future. Four-star Wolverine freshman George Washington III is already showing high aspirations for this Michigan basketball team.

George Washington III is joining the Wolverines as a four-star recruit from Chaminade Julienne High School in Dayton, OH. Originally, Washington committed to Ohio State but decommitted to join the Wolverines.

Washington made it very clear about what drew him to Michigan basketball. “I don’t think it’s possible to spend any time around these guys — Coach [Juwan] Howard, the players, the managers — and not just be drawn in,” said Washington on Michigan Athletic’s Defend the Block podcast.

He added, “Just being on campus and seeing how beautiful it is, and then coming and seeing the basketball part too, made it a really easy decision. It’s a family here, and that is obvious the second you see them interact with each other.”

Washington also spoke about his gameplay style on the podcast. “I’d say I’m a guard that loves to put the ball in the basket,” Washington said. “But the thing that sets me apart from other players, especially at my position, is my ball-handling ability, my ability to shoot the ball, and just my feel for the game in total.”

He finished by describing his aspirations for his first year. “I expect a lot of threes, hopefully a poster dunk or two, and good basketball. I’m here to win, that’s my goal.”
