Haters of Michigan football QB J.J. McCarthy are grasping at straws

The haters of J.J. McCarthy are grasping at straws on an epic level in an attempt to criticize the former Michigan football quarterback.

If you listen to rival fans of Michigan football, you’d think that J.J. McCarthy had the worst performance of any quarterback at the 2024 NFL Combine. Of course, that is also based on the fact that McCarthy missed one throw during his workout on Saturday.

Forget that McCarthy dropped a dime 60 yards down the field with ease. He also hit nearly every throw and was clocked on the laser throwing 61 MPH, second only to Joe Milton. That matched the number that Josh Allen put up at the combine a few years ago.

Michigan football rivals can’t see past hate of J.J. McCarthy

Add in the fact that the Michigan football legend was measured at nearly 6-foot-3, 219 pounds, and posted the fifth-best three-cone drill in the entire draft, beating numerous receivers and defensive backs, and it’s safe to say McCarthy was one of the big winners during the combine. Just don’t tell rival fans that. They are still trying to convince Michigan football fans that Kyle McCord, who was so great he transferred to Syracuse, is better.

McCarthy wowed scouts and NFL draft analysts over the weekend. NFL Network and ESPN were both talking about him as a potential top-five pick. He’s met with the Bears, Bucs, Saints, Seahawks, Raiders, Vikings, Broncos, Commanders, and Patriots.

But instead of recognizing greatness and appreciating the player who went 3-0 against Ohio State in his career and 2-1 against the Spartans, they say things like, “he would excel in handoff drills.” What’s hilarious is that Ohio State and Michigan fans make these claims despite watching McCarthy utterly destroy their teams.

The hate of McCarthy is just pathetic

McCarthy made four starts against Michigan State and Ohio State. He went 4-0 in those games. He’s got 10 touchdown passes compared to zero interceptions. He completed 67.3 percent of his passes, averaged 9.1 yards per attempt, and had a passer rating of 177. Michigan football also won those four games by an average of 25 points.

Not to be mean, but you have to be pretty thick-headed to criticize a quarterback who shreds you with those numbers. Hell, McCarthy had three touchdown passes of 45 yards or longer against Ohio State alone in 2022, plus completed 21-of-27 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns against Sparty in 2023, and STILL, Michigan State fans try to say he is “average.”

At this point, it’s humorous. Either these folks really don’t know anything about football or their hatred for J.J. McCarthy has reached such epic levels, probably because they watched him beat the hell out of their favorite teams for too long, they are blind to reality. It’s understandable. It’s also pathetic.

J.J. McCarthy is one of the best quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL draft and that’s not up for debate unless you are an Ohio State or Michigan State fan who continues grasping at straws.
