Michigan football (5-5, 3-4 Big Ten) has lost back-to-back games since its last win over Michigan State. Following a bye week, the Wolverines are set to end their regular season at home against Northwestern and on the road against No. 2 Ohio State.

Though the season of disappointment is almost over, the Wolverines still have something to play for. Aside from the annual season capping rivalry game, Michigan is still in the hunt for a bowl game. The maize and blue would have to win at least one more game to be bowl eligible.

Sherrone Moore on Bye Week, NIL Strategy

Head coach Sherrone Moore spoke to the media on Monday and said the off-week was all about staying on course.

“It was buy-in week. We really took it upon us to make sure that we’re all bought in to the next two games, to do everything we can to get better and really work on the fundamentals,” Moore said. “No stone unturned, every T crossed, every I dotted, to make sure that we’re in a great place. (We) had some of our best spirited practices. Gave them a couple days off, and they came out yesterday with fire (and) energy, so it was really good to see the kids in a positive mindset.”

Moore said it all started with senior tight end and team captain Max Bredeson.

With the offseason approaching, recruiting will be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Recruiting is much different with NIL, and Michigan has taken several steps to ensure it can compete with the best in the country. Moore said money isn’t the whole conversation, though it’s certainly important.

“It’s part of football now, right?,” Moore said. “NIL is part of recruiting, so it’s been a huge piece of it. We’re just continuing to strive to get the best players that fit us and the best players we can, and we’re getting the support that we need to do that.

“You still have to have the attitude that you want to come to Michigan to be transformed into something bigger than just yourself. For us, the support that you get from the boosters isn’t always financial. It’s putting guys in position – whether it’s internships or different things – to make sure you have a goal that you want to do… That support is a big piece of it too.”
