ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Over the weekend, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy helped lead the way to a narrow 31-24 victory over Maryland — the Wolverines’ 11th win of the year and 1,000th win in program history. That said, while the win was gritty and nail-biting, McCarthy looked a bit off, and it was the second game in a row that Sherrone Moore and the coaching staff seemed to keep the ball out of his hands, especially in the second half. Today, we got an injury update on McCarthy ahead of this weekend’s game against the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes.

Is Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy battling an injury?

Beating Ohio State is all that matters in Ann Arbor right now despite the news of scandal and more. With Jim Harbaugh suspended, Sherrone Moore and his quarterback, JJ McCarthy, must pitch a perfect game this weekend against the Buckeyes in order to appear in a third straight Big Ten title game and potentially make a run at the national championship this season.

Updates from Sherrone Moore and McCarthy himself ahead of the Ohio State game

With JJ McCarthy’s injury status in question today, both he and Sherrone Moore gave updates on how he is feeling heading into “The Game.”

“He is feeling great,” Sherrone Moore said of his quarterback. “I actually talked to (JJ McCarthy) today and yesterday — he’s feeling the best he has felt. He’s just excited to get to work (prepping for Ohio State).”

Second-year Michigan football starting quarterback JJ McCarthy confirmed what Moore told us, too.

“I’m doing really good,” JJ McCarthy said at his press conference on Monday afternoon. “Last week (at Maryland) was a little bit rough, but I’m doing fantastic right now… I’ll be ready to go (against Ohio State).”

This weekend, JJ McCarthy is hoping to improve to 3-0 against Ohio State in what could turn out to be his final game at the Big House as a Wolverine.
