Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy might be one of the hardest players to project in the 2024 NFL draft. Some people love him. Other people not so much.

It seems like most NFL like him. However, there is some disagreement about where he should go. Most draft analysts believe he’s a top-10 pick. Some have argued that he shouldn’t go in the top five, while some, like Tiki Barber, have said he shouldn’t be a first-round pick.

The latest on J.J. McCarthy and the NFL draft

McCarthy’s stock has been on the rise though. He was impressive at the NFL draft combine. The former Michigan football quarterback was also stellar at the Wolverines’ Pro Day. Jim Harbaugh said it was the best pro day he’s ever seen.

Washington, Minnesota, the Giants, and other teams have been connected to McCarthy. Another team to watch though could be the Patriots. New England has the third overall pick and will meet with the Michigan football quarterback before hosting him for a visit on Monday according to To Pelissero.

It could just be due diligence. The visit could even be a smokescreen of sorts for other teams. If the Vikings or someone else believes that New England is taking McCarthy and the Vikings want McCarthy, they’d probably be more willing to meet the asking price.

The Patriots also have a glaring need at quarterback. They were successful the last time they selected a Michigan football quarterback, although that was Tom Brady in the sixth round. New England would need to use the No. 3 pick, most likely, to draft J.J.

It might just be a ploy but I wouldn’t be shocked at all if McCarthy was the second or third quarterback off the board in the 2024 NFL draft. We shall see.
