Michigan football is in hot pursuit of the 2023-24 national title, an award that has eluded the Wolverines for the better part of three decades now. For Jim Harbaugh, beating Ohio State used to be his program’s top goal; however, after doing so in back-to-back seasons, along with a pair of Big Ten titles and College Football Playoff appearances, the Wolverines are poised to do even more damage this year.

In 2021, Michigan underwent a culture change that put the Maize and Blue back on the map and turned the tide in their rivalry with the Buckeyes. Now, Harbaugh is attempting to replicate that success in hopes of claiming a national title by placing a target on Georgia’s back.

Jim Harbaugh, Michigan football introduces ‘Beat Georgia’ drill in pursuit of a national title

Today it was reported that Jim Harbaugh has incorporated a “Beat Georgia” segment into Michigan football’s practice routine in preparation for the 2023 college football season. This addition follows the success of their “Beat Ohio” drills, which resulted in impressive victories over the Buckeyes, as well as a flawless record against Ohio State this decade.

Harbaugh’s emphasis on defeating top-tier teams like Georgia highlights the Wolverines’ determination to secure the number one spot in the polls by the end of this year. They understand that in order to be the best, they must beat the best. Jim Harbaugh’s preparations indicate that he is ready to take on that challenge.

With high expectations surrounding the Wolverines for the upcoming season, unlike anything seen in recent decades, anything less than a third consecutive Big Ten title, a College Football Playoff appearance, and a strong push for the national title would be considered a disappointment by both fans and the media.

Despite making back-to-back playoff appearances, Michigan was eliminated in the semifinals by Georgia and TCU on both occasions. Consequently, Harbaugh and his team recognize the need to approach the playoffs with the same intensity they apply when preparing for the Buckeyes, making it a year-round focus.

These developments bode well for Michigan football and their dedicated fan base as they approach the new season. The successful turnaround in their rivalry with Ohio State using these methods indicates that Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines are fully committed to making a significant push for the title in the coming months, possibly advancing to the second round of the playoffs and beyond.
