The 2023 season is bound to be a big one for third-year Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy, who took over as the full-time starter for the Wolverines during Week 2 of the 2022 season. If the Maize and Blue are to finally overcome their postseason woes, Michigan football needs a huge year from McCarthy, who has massive ambitions for this fall’s season.
Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy looking to lead Michigan football to a legendary season
In less than 60 days, the 2023 Michigan football season is set to kick off against ECU in Ann Arbor, MI. After winning back-to-back Big Ten championships over the past few seasons, not to mention being a game away from the national title game in 2021 and 2022, the Maize and Blue appear to be in great shape to finally win it all for the first time since 1997.
That said, if Michigan football is to accomplish all of its preseason goals, JJ McCarthy must step up and prove to the nation that he is one of the best quarterbacks in college football. Expectations are high in Ann Arbor right now, as reflected by McCarthy’s massive ambitions.
“I want to be one of the best teams to ever play this game,” JJ McCarthy said on episode one of ‘Michigan Made.’ “We have the potential to do it. We have the talent to do it, we have the dedication, commitment, and hard work to do it. It’s all about just putting it together and executing the plan.”
Setting a goal of being one of the best teams in program history is ambitious, considering that Michigan football is the winningest college football program of all time. In fact, the Wolverines have the opportunity to become the first college program to achieve 1,000 all-time wins with an 11-win season or better in 2023.
It remains to be seen whether JJ McCarthy will reach the level of a Heisman Trophy-worthy quarterback for Michigan football in 2023. Nonetheless, the Maize and Blue can feel confident with their rising junior quarterback leading the team this year. If McCarthy and the Wolverines can meet the challenge, his ambitious aspirations for the upcoming season might become a reality.
