Over the years, Paul Finebaum has been perhaps the biggest Michigan football critic in the world of media. After news of an NCAA investigation into Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines broke yesterday, Paul Finebaum gathered his thoughts and came to Harbaugh’s defense in a pretty shocking turn of events.
Major Michigan football critic Paul Finebaum rushes to Harbaugh’s defense amid NCAA case
You know the NCAA investigation into Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan football program is far-fetched when even Paul Finebaum calls it out.
“I think, on the surface, it is a bad look for Jim Harbaugh,” Finebaum said on Get Up. “But in understanding the NCAA and its enforcement division right now, it’s hard for me to imagine that they’ll be able to make a solid case. It does look bad. There have been allegations out there in the past, but it does seem like it would be a close call by the NCAA, and I sense that there’s some piling on here, to Jim Harbaugh.
“He (Harbaugh) turned his nose to them (the NCAA) a couple of months ago, as you remember, during its investigation, and it seems to me like selective prosecution. That doesn’t mean that some of this didn’t happen. I frankly think that this happens everywhere. Not to the degree that the story is laid out here, but there’s some very grey area. I think if this had been someone else, this investigation probably wouldn’t have gotten to this point.”
Right now, there is not much evidence outside of a few opposing coaches claiming that it seemed as if Michigan football had its signs. While the timing of these allegations is not ideal, the Wolverines must remain locked in on the 2023 season and do everything they can to beat Michigan State tomorrow.
