Recent developments have cast some uncertainty on Mekhai White’s potential commitment to the Michigan football program. Mekhai White, a highly sought-after three-star composite wide receiver from King Georgia High School in Virginia, had initially shown strong interest in joining the Wolverines, as indicated by all major outlets. With two crystal ball predictions and promising odds from the Recruiting Prediction Machine in favor of Michigan, it seemed likely that White would choose the Maize and Blue — that changed today, as Maryland is now trending for White.
Major Michigan football target projected to Maryland via new crystal ball
However, the situation with this major Michigan football target has taken a turn with the emergence of a new 247 Sports crystal ball favoring the Maryland Terrapins. This development is not a positive sign for Michigan, especially considering White’s upcoming official visit to Maryland scheduled for June 9th.
White’s regional ties make him a prime target for schools like Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Penn State. Despite this, Michigan football had positioned itself as the front-runner for his commitment. According to the 247 Sports rankings, White is currently ranked as the No. 34 athlete in his recruiting class and the No. 6 recruit in Virginia. While his primary position is wide receiver, he is also listed as an athlete due to his versatility on the field.
Josh Gattis looking to make a splash during return to Big Ten East
Notably, Josh Gattis, former offensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan from 2019 to 2021, has taken on the role of offensive coordinator at Maryland. Despite a challenging season with the Miami Hurricanes, Gattis has always been recognized as a strong recruiter. His presence at Maryland may now pose a threat to the Wolverines’ recruiting efforts, even in the early stages of his tenure with the Terps.
The Maize and Blue have done well thus far with this major Michigan football target, Mekhai White, but an early loss to Maryland on the recruiting trail would not be a great way to start the month of June for Jim Harbaugh and his staff.
