From 2019-2021, Michigan football fans were subjected to the famous ‘speed in space’ motto coined by the Wolverines’ former offensive coordinator. After Michigan’s incredible 12-2 season in 2021, Josh Gattis left Harbaugh’s staff for the same position with the Miami Hurricanes in the ACC. Now, a year later, Gattis is back in the Big Ten East.

Sources claim Mike Locksley will hire Gattis as his OC in 2023

Here is what Football Scoop had to say about Gattis’ return to the Big Ten East:

“The Terps are poised to hire Josh Gattis, the former Miami (Fla.) coordinator who rose to acclaim as a Broyles Award winner at Michigan and who has previously coached under James Franklin as well. Gattis is set to replace Dan Enos, who left earlier this year to return as the offensive play-caller for Sam Pittman at Arkansas.”

“Gattis and Locksley previously served as the offensive braintrust at Alabama in 2018 when Locks served as OC and Gatt as his co-offensive coordinator. Gattis had been expected to go with Locksley to Maryland when Locks first got the job following the ’18 season; but made an abrupt change when Jim Harbaugh offered him the coordinator title at Michigan.”

Josh Gattis fired from Miami, heads to Maryland

Despite being named the nation’s top assistant a season before, Josh Gattis was let go from Miami after just one season — granted, it was a disappointing season for the Hurricanes’ offense to say the least. Gattis has an extensive and admittedly impressive resume, including major stops at Penn State, Alabama, Michigan, and Miami.

Now, Gattis has earned another Power Five role as Maryland’s offensive coordinator ahead of the 2023 season. Mike Locksley, Maryland’s head coach, and Josh Gattis have served on a staff before when they were both at Alabama in 2017-2018. The two will now reunite for a new season this fall, and, if all goes well, perhaps many more seasons in the future. Gattis will face his former team — the Michigan Wolverines — in Week 12 of the coming season in College Park, MA, the weekend before Michigan and Ohio State clash in ‘The Game.’
