Now that the spring game is in the rearview mirror, we have a much better idea of who will be stepping up for the Wolverines this fall. Despite signing a class that hardly ranked in the top 20 nationally, the Michigan football team has some standout freshmen this year — here are the top-3 Michigan football freshman standouts that you need to keep an eye on throughout the 2023 season.

Michigan football freshman standouts: Benjamin Hall (RB)

During the spring game, it became clear that the Michigan Wolverines had a new freshman sensational running back on their hands. In fact, RB coach Mike Hart quickly compared Benjamin Hall to Michigan football legend Hassan Haskins due to his physical nature.

Despite only standing at 5-foot-11, Hall weighs in over 235 pounds as a true freshman and is a bowling ball out of the backfield — he was seen dragging defenders numerous times during the spring game earlier this month and will likely do more of the same later this year.

Fredrick Moore (WR)

The Wolverines need some help when it comes to wide receiver depth this year, seeing as Ronnie Bell is now NFL bound. That being said, Michigan football has a standout true freshman wide receiver heading into the fall opener: Fredrick Moore. Despite being among the lower-ranked recruits in Michigan’s most recent recruiting class (2023), Moore has already flashed explosive speed and solid hands during spring ball.

Enow Etta (EDGE)

Unlike Moore and Hall, Enow Etta was one of the top players in Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class and is expected to see some concrete action immediately. Seeing as the Michigan football team is losing two of its top pass rushers from the 2022 season — Mike Morris and Eyabi Okie — the Wolverines could use some help at the EDGE spot. That’s where former four-star EDGE Enow Etta could come in and get some significant reps as a freshman.

Since all three of these young men are still freshmen in college, we don’t expect any of them to earn starting roles, though don’t be surprised if you hear their names called in big games this fall.
