Michigan football hosted some highly-ranked recruits on official visits over the weekend. The Wolverines even impressed five-star wide receiver Derek Meadows. He called the visit “incredible.”

But there is more Michigan football recruiting news happening on Monday. The Wolverines extended a new offer and it’s to Maryland three-star commitment Julien Horton.

The 6-foot, 175-pound athlete, is ranked No. 832 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Horton committed to Maryland back in March. Michigan football evaluated him recently and extended a scholarship offer according to Brian Dohn of 247 Sports.

Horton said in an interview back in March that he committed to Maryland as an athlete but that they want to try him at safety and nickel. Dohn also reported that Horton was on campus in Ann Arbor. He’s also expected to take an official visit.

It’s an interesting offer. Some Michigan football fans will worry about the ranking. But with the recent evaluation, you have to feel good about the offer from a Michgan perspective. I’ve learned to trust the Michigan coaches more than the recruiting rankings.

That doesn’t mean that every ranking is wrong. There’s nothing wrong with recruiting a three-star prospect though. Horton seems like a stellar athlete and is a guy who could develop at safety and nickel for the Wolverines, which is always valuable.

Horton was also a productive receiver last season. The three-star athlete had 32 tackles and an interception on defense, plus 65 catches for 696 yards and eight touchdowns on offense.

It’s hard to know where he stands on the board, but an official visit would tell you that Michigan football is serious about trying to pull off a flip.
