The recruitment of elite 2025 tight end Andrew Olesh has come down to Michigan football and Alabama.

The Wolverines hosted a bunch of their top targets for official visits over “Victors Weekend” which is always a key point on the recruiting calendar for Michigan football.

Michigan football has landed four commitments since last weekend and three of them were official visitors. Another official visitor from last weekend — Andrew Olesh — a four-star tight end from Pennslyvania, also has Michigan football in his top two according to a new report from Brian Dohn of 247 Sports.

Michigan felt like a top contender along with Penn State going into the weekend. However, the Nittany Lions who also hosted Olesh for an official visit, were eliminated on Wednesday, at least according to what Olesh told Dohn.

Alabama was able to get Olesh on a call with offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, a former Michigan football quarterback, and the Tide at least have a fighting chance now. According to Dohn’s report, Olesh also has a tentative decision date set for Monday, July 1st.

What it means for Michigan football

Making the top two for the 6-foot-5, 215-pound tight end is good news. The Wolveines have been trending with crystal ball predictions and expert projections. They are the favorite according to the On3 prediction machine, especially after a prediction in favor of Michigan from Steve Wiltfong of On3.com.

Yet, Alabama is still Alabama. The Crimson Tide have plenty of NIL money and they have been doing a great job on the recruiting trail this cycle, even with a new head coach.

Olesh told Dohn he wasn’t sure if he would commit on Monday and said he could postpone to a later date. My read is that would be bad news for Michigan. He just visited and the Wolverines have the momentum.

We’ll see if they can close this thing out by Monday night.
