Yesterday, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines went on the road for their third Big Ten game of the 2023 season. There, JJ McCarthy & Co. downed the Minnesota Golden Gophers 52-10, improving to 6-0 on the year and 3-0 in conference play before facing Indiana next weekend. After the game, Harbaugh had some incredibly high praise for the Wolverines’ second-year starting quarterback.

JJ McCarthy came into the year with high expectations, and so far, he has not disappointed. Yesterday, the Michigan football star completed 70% of his passes for 219 yards and a touchdown with no picks. He added another 17 yards and two touchdowns on the ground — something he has been doing a lot more of as of late.

After the game, 9th-year Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh, who has coached some great QBs on a few great teams, pinned JJ McCarthy as the nation’s best quarterback. A bold claim, to say the least.

“Nobody we would rather have than JJ McCarthy,” Jim Harbaugh stated. “Haven’t watched all the guys, you know, kind of started to watch some of the others, but you know, play for play, JJ McCarthy (is the best). Maybe I’m a little biased, but I don’t think so. I’m trying not to be — I think he’s the best one (quarterback). I really do. No one we would rather have — just so proud of him.”

JJ McCarthy still yet to see the fourth quarter

Through six games, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy is completing nearly 78% of his passes, has thrown for nearly 1,300 yards, 11 touchdowns, three picks, and more — not to mention his rushing stats. Additionally, McCarthy’s streak of not playing in the fourth quarter has now extended for six straight this fall, as he was taken out early once again during yesterday’s massive win.
