This weekend, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh will return to the sidelines in Ann Arbor for the first time since the Wolverines’ 19-17 win over Illinois last year. Now coming off of a three-game suspension, the 9th-year head coach is looking to never run into this issue again, and says he has implemented some new policies in Ann Arbor to avoid these run-ins from becoming a reoccurring event.
Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh is changing things up to avoid suspension
Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh headed into “uncharted waters” during his three-game suspension, which has sidelined him for all of the Wolverines’ games thus far. This week, Harbaugh says he is taking no chances anymore — time to crack and ensure that there are zero infractions for anyone to find.
“I think it’s made me a better coach. And as a result, we are going to implement, some new things that I haven’t done as it relates to just a few policies around here to make sure I don’t ever get sidelined again,” Jim Harbaugh said. “I’m ramping that up to a gold standard…”
So what changes are being made? Jim Harbaugh outlined one and hinted at more:
“One of them is, you know, just the analysts and making sure that there’s just absolutely no coaching whatsoever,” Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh said. “You say that over and over to guys, and it’s just that natural coaching instinct.”
Jim Harbaugh looking to protect himself and his program
Jim Harbaugh hinted that other policies are going in place, but didn’t really give much detail. For the time being, the Michigan football coach is still not allowed to directly comment on his situation due to the NCAA’s ongoing investigation and pending meeting with the infractions committee.
“You know, they gotta protect us,” Jim Harbaugh continued. “I want to protect them, I want to protect me, and we’ve done an incredible job. I mean, we’ve gone to (every) degree to follow every rule, but just actually watching the game and not being on the sideline, I saw it from a different perspective. And (thought) ‘Here’s what we could do to make it even better.’”
