Last weekend, the Michigan State Spartans suffered one of their most embarrassing losses of the season thus far. Despite holding a massive late lead on Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights brought things back, downing MSU in New Jersey. This weekend, Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines will get their crack at the Spartans, though will have to prep for a new MSU quarterback: Katin Houser.

Last weekend, Michigan State freshman quarterback Katin Houser got his first start for the Green and White. Again, the game was not pretty for MSU, but Houser played solid football — enough to impress Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan football program ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game.

“He (Michigan State quarterback Katin Houser) did some really good things,” Jim Harbaugh said on Monday. “I was impressed. And very young guy making his first start, it was a most impressive performance.”

All said and done, despite the road loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Michigan State quarterback Katin Houser had a solid game. He completed 18 of his 29 passes for 133 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. While Houser is yet to see anything remotely close to what the Michigan football defense brings to the table, he gives the Spartans a better chance of winning and is a player to watch during the Battle for Paul Bunyan this weekend.
