It has been an eventful week for the Michigan State football program, which suspended Mel Tucker without pay after it was revealed that a sexual harassment investigation is ongoing regarding the 4th-year head coach. Tucker, who is accused of harassing rape survivor and sexual assault activist Brenda Tracy, is all but out as the Spartans’ head coach, leaving a likely pending coaching search to be handled next offseason. Today, On3 analyst Andy Staples (formerly with The Athletic) released his top candidates for the MSU job, pinning Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore — a second-year offensive coordinator — as one of the top candidates.
Michigan football coach already being named a top potential replacement candidate for the Michigan State football coaching job with Mel Tucker out
Sherrone Moore is one of the most beloved coaches in Ann Arbor right now — he has done a terrific job with the Wolverines’ offense so far. In fact, according to head coach Jim Harbaugh and a number of his players, the Michigan football coach is bound to be a great head coach someday.
According to a new list released by the On3 network — which is one of the leading college football news networks in the nation right now — Sherrone Moore is a top potential candidate for the Michigan State football head coaching position. Among the candidates listed, Moore was the first to be named.
Brian Hartline of Ohio State, Alex Atkins of Florida State, and a few others were also named. After a lot of grumblings about Sherrone Moore being a top candidate for the Northwestern job this year, it comes as no surprise that, yet again, his name is being tied to another Big Ten head coaching vacancy when the 2024 season rolls around.
Sherrone Moore will be a head coach for the Wolverines this weekend
Perhaps adding to the hype surrounding the Michigan football coach, Moore will get his shot at being a head coach this weekend. With Jim Harbaugh suspended, Sherrone Moore is set to be this weekend’s interim head coach when the Wolverines host Bowling Green for the team’s first night game of the 2023 season. If Moore can show out against the Falcons on Saturday, the buzz surrounding his future as a head coach will only continue to grow.
