With many Wolverines announcing their NFL Draft decisions following the National Championship Game, it’s clear that the 2024 squad is going to look far different than it did this past season. That said, the most important offseason decision that needs to be made right now is by Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh, who is reportedly interviewing with the LA Chargers soon, according to insider Adam Schefter.

Report states that Michigan football coach will interview with NFL team

Jim Harbaugh has flirted with the NFL for a few years in a row now, and after winning Michigan football its first National Championship since 1997 last week, it appears that Harbaugh’s interest in going back to the league has picked up again.

On Monday, famed NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the 60-year-old Michigan football coach will interview with the LA Chargers, though no decision is expected soon, and Harbaugh will likely weigh his options from here.

“Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is meeting later today with the Los Angeles Chargers in his first interview of this hiring cycle, per league sources,” reads Schefter’s report. “A decision is not expected to be imminent for either side. Harbaugh will be deliberate with any decision he makes about his future. The Chargers still are going through the interview process and have other candidates that they plan to speak with.”

LA Chargers’ interest was expected

Of course, in 2022 it was the Vikings, and in 2023 it was the Broncos, so this is nothing new for Jim Harbaugh — he is one of the top coaches in the nation, and with a lot of changes coming to the sport (as well as pending punishments from the NCAA), it makes sense that there could be some interest in leaving Michigan.

On the other hand, many in Ann Arbor feel that Jim Harbaugh would rather stay with the Wolverines and chase more National Championships, especially after the amount of support that he received over the past few months when he was under fire from the national media.

Time to see what Jim Harbaugh would like to do

From here, it’s time to wait and see what Jim Harbaugh decides to do. It’s well-known that the University of Michigan football program has a contract for Harbaugh in the works — as stated by Warde Manuel on Saturday — but now it’s time to get pen on paper and lock Harbaugh in for the long haul.
