The Michigan passing game took a step back this season, and running back Donovan Edwards might be able to help. Edwards has just 63 receiving yards as a senior, and he’s never finished a season with less than 200. On the In the Trenches Podcast, Edwards said he’s brought up the possibility of running more routes.
Donovan Edwards the Wide Receiver?
“Just for me, regardless, whatever the coaches best think for us to win, then I’m all good for it,” Edwards said. “But I’ve definitely had a conversation with my positions coach that, like, just for me, like I want to be utilized, and in an aspect where no linebacker is going to be able to guard me, you know what I’m saying?”
Edwards hasn’t had much opportunity toting the rock, as fellow senior Kalel Mullings has been the lead back. With the passing game struggling, it would be understandable if Edwards grew frustrated in his lack of involvement. However, Edwards is just focused on the team.
“I just want just to help us win the game, regardless of how it is,” Edwards said. “And the best players should always be on the field at all times, and that’s our motto. So, regardless, I always just want to do my absolute best to help the team win, whether that’s cheering my guys on or being out there to make a play in return.”
