The Michigan Wolverines downed the Alabama Crimson Tide on January 1 of this year, 27-20 in an overtime thriller, which turned out to be the final game of the Nick Saban era. After seven National Championship trophies and more, the legendary coach is hanging it up. That said, just before the Rose Bowl Game, a major transfer portal target picked Bama over Michigan football: Domani Jackson, a close friend of Will Johnson, who could become a target for the Maize and Blue with Saban out of the picture.

When a National Championship-winning program calls your name, especially under a great head coach like Nick Saban, you listen — as was the case with transfer portal cornerback Domani Jackson, a former five-star out of USC. Since committing to the Alabama Crimson Tide, however, Nick Saban has retired, a Michigan won a title, making his commitment to Bama a potentially breakable pledge for Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh.

On top of losing Mike Sainristil and Josh Wallace, Michigan football lost cornerback Amorion Walker to the transfer portal yesterday; this makes the defensive back position a major need for the Wolverines if they are to compete for another national title in 2024-25.

Will Johnson a factor with Domani Jackson?

Will Johnson, a five-star sophomore for Michigan and a 2023 National Champion, is said to have a great relationship with Domani Jackson, who was recently a top transfer target for the Wolverines and may still be of interest even though he’s committed to Alabama. In fact, seeing as a defensive back is Michigan’s top team need right now, Jackson is undoubtedly a name that has been brought up by the Wolverines’ coaching staff with Nick Saban saying farewell.

It remains to be seen whether Michigan football will make a push for Jackson or not, but don’t be surprised if the Wolverines give him another recruiting pitch just in case, seeing as they could use a five-star talent like him roaming the backfield alongside Will Johnson and others next fall.
