HOUSTON — What’s better than winning a National Championship? Winning it again! On Monday, the Wolverines were crowned champions for the first time since 1997, and now, heading into a long offseason full of unknowns, Michigan football stars Will Johnson and Blake Corum are confident that the Wolverines will be back to win it all a second time.

Michigan football stars eying another National Championship

Who is staying/leaving for the NFL? What will the NCAA do with the sign-stealing and recruiting investigations? Will Jim Harbaugh leave for the NFL? These are all questions that the Wolverines don’t have answers to — however, one thing that is known for sure is that Michigan football just won its first National Championship since the 1997 season.

Will Johnson looking to return to title game

On Tuesday, the morning after Michigan football won it all, downing Washington 34-13, Michigan football stars Blake Corum and Will Johnson had a chance to meet with the media alongside ninth-year head coach Jim Harbaugh. There, they explained that the Michigan Wolverines are not done yet — they are gunning for a return to the Championship Game.

“I mean, we had a great group of guys that will be back next year that are super talented in my class, and other guys that will come back, too,” Will Johnson, a sophomore defensive back for Michigan football, said. “So I’m just ready to keep enjoying this while I can and get back to work whenever we get started again.”

Blake Corum confident in the Wolverines going forward

Blake Corum is not among Michigan’s returners for the 2024 season; however, it’s clear that he is still buying into the team’s culture. Even after he’s gone, he believes that Michigan football will contend for more titles.

“Yeah, I definitely think the guys will run it back,” Blake Corum said. “They know what it takes. They know what it’s like. And something Coach Harbaugh always says is don’t get a big head. And none of the guys on the team will have a big head after this win.”

“Obviously we’ll enjoy the moment right now, but the guys will be ready to go back to work with Coach Herb (Ben Herbert) and with their coaches. And I definitely believe the Wolverines will be back.”

For now, Michigan football stars like Will Johnson and Blake Corum are going to soak in the program’s first-ever National Championship Game victory; however, when the offseason truly gets underway, expect the Maize and Blue to come back just as hungry as they chase more titles in years to come.
