Michigan football expected to land key transfer at cornerback

Michigan football desperately needs depth at the cornerback position and the Wolverines are expected to land transfer Aamir Hall.

There are some lingering concerns about the Michigan football roster following the spring game last month, but one of them will be addressed soon.

At least if the experts are right. Michigan football missed on cornerback Terrance Brooks earlier this week, as he committed to Illinois when U-M seemed like a perfect fit.

LSU also grabbed Jay’viar Suggs. NIL and playing time were probably both factors for the defensive lineman, but it’s frustrating, to say the least.

However, the Michigan football staff has been nimble. The Wolverines pivoted quickly to Aamir Hall, a former Albany cornerback. He’s 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, and had 15 pass breakups last season, as well as five interceptions on his way to earning All-American honors.

Hall helped Albany reach the FCS semifinals and has two seasons in college football with double-digit pass breakups. The visit was reported on Wednesday and now, Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports is reporting that Hall is “expected to land at Michigan.”

Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider has placed a crystal ball projection for Michigan football. Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos of On3.com have also logged expert projections for Hall to the Wolverines.

What Aamir Hall would mean for Michigan football

It’s an important pickup if it happens. Michigan has high-end talent at cornerback in Will Johnson and also Jyaire Hill — another top-200 recruit. Hill hasn’t played much in his career but teams were coming after him in the transfer portal and the 6-foot-2 defender showed this spring that he’s taken a step forward.

However, you need more than a couple of quality corners. Like pass rushers or defensive linemen, you can never have enough.

Yet, Michigan would have felt short without the addition of another cornerback. You could argue the Wolverines really need two. Hall would be a good start though and here’s to hoping the expert predictions are correct.
