This year’s Michigan football freshman class was not the best that Jim Harbaugh has ever recruited… on paper. That being said, there are a lot of rising stars that are expected to come into the room and make a splash right away for the Wolverines — two of these standout freshmen are running backs Cole Cabana and Benjamin Hall, who both earned some new hype yesterday.
High praise for two Michigan football freshman running backs
Yesterday, ahead of this weekend’s season opener against East Carolina, running back Kalel Mullings had a chance to speak with the media. There, he added to the hype surrounding Michigan football freshman running backs Benjamin Hall and Cole Cabana. While Hall was not ranked as high as Cabana as a recruit, it sounds like both have been impressive to this point — they have opposite skillsets, and could be a formidable duo down the road for the Maize and Blue.
“I think they both show all you guys how good they are,” Kalel Mullings said of Cole Cabana and Benjamin Hall. “They’re two really good backs. I think Cole (Cabana) — he’s super fast, and he can catch the ball great. That wlil take him very far. And then with Ben (Hall), he has a great burst, great vision, and can cut really, really well. So two different types of backs, but they both bring a lot to the game, so they’re going to be really good.”
Benjamin Hall and Cole Cabana could be next elite running back duo
Over the past two seasons, Michigan football has needed elite running back duos to win back-to-back Big Ten titles and appear in the College Football Playoff twice. Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum led the way in 2021, while Corum and Donovan Edwards did the same last year, and will look to continue their success throughout the 2023 season.
While Benjamin Hall and Cole Cabana may not be in line for starting reps this fall, both Edwards and Corum may leave after the coming 2023 season, meaning they could get their chance to be the next elite Michigan football running back duo as soon as 2024.
Regardless, expect to see both Michigan football freshman backs on the field this year, earning valuable reps and experience that may lead to a massive future in the Maize and Blue for this duo of rising stars.
