Today, sophomore Michigan football linebacker Ernest Hausmann, who is currently locked in a heated position battle with veteran Mike Barrett, spoke with the media. The Wolverines have an insanely talented linebacker corps this year, yet on top of their experienced standouts, the team’s freshman linebackers are turning some heads as well.

Michigan football linebacker Ernest Hausmann has high praise for the freshman LB corps

Ernest Hausmann arrived in Ann Arbor over the winter by way of the transfer portal, and ever since, he has been stirring up a ton of buzz. That said, some of that attention was shifted to this year’s Michigan football freshman class (the 2023 signing class), which has reportedly been turning some heads throughout fall camp and more.

“Yeah, the freshman linebackers here, they’ve done a tremendous job,” Hausmann explained. “They’re required to go to a program that has academics involved with it in the summer and with that balance in the football side of things. But I feel like I’m so proud of those guys because that balance is not easy. Obviously, the first time going to college, and I understand what that was just last year and just trying to learn the whole defense and now have academics added to that component and having responsibility somewhere else.”

More on the Wolverines’ freshman linebackers

Hausmann didn’t stop there, either — he continued on about how impressive the freshman linebackers have been throughout fall camp and beyond.

“I’m extremely proud of those guys,” Hausmann continued, “because what they’ve done and putting the extra time in to be with the coaches and in the film room and meet with us. It’s on me and the other guys that have been in the program that doesn’t have that responsibility to understand that and to help them out in those certain situations and then to have that patience with them as well — to understand that they’re not getting the same amount of coaching at the time, obviously with the different responsibilities that they had.”

‘Giant leaps’ during fall camp

According to this new transfer Michigan football linebacker, the Wolverines’ freshman linebackers have been taking “giant leaps.”

“But I’m extremely proud of them because they’ve taken some giant leaps since they’ve been here. And now, since that program has come to an end, I’m looking forward to being able to spend more time with them now and get them caught up on everything that they’ve missed. I know that they will because they’re extremely hardworking, and I’m really proud of that.”
