The 2023 Michigan Wolverines roster is packed with talent, especially along its young (yet talented) defensive line. Yesterday, sophomore Mason Graham spoke to the media at Schembechler Hall, addressing many of the Wolverines’ top fall camp issues and more. One major point that Graham made was to highlight the stellar play of the Michigan football freshman defensive tackles thus far.

Mason Graham breaks down the impressive Michigan football freshman defensive tackles

Earlier this week, 9th-year head coach Jim Harbaugh identified a whopping nine Michigan football freshman standouts that have been impressive thus far during fall camp. Yesterday, Mason Graham added to the hype surrounding this year’s freshman class, breaking down how the defensive tackles have been fitting in throughout fall camp and more.

“I feel like they all came in ready to play,” Mason Graham said of this year’s Michigan football freshman defensive tackles. “They know that in front of them, we’re looking for more guys to step up to go to us with those hard games where we need someone to step up and play a few snaps.”

Which freshmen are making a splash on the 2023 Michigan Wolverines roster?

So which freshman defensive tackles have been standing out for Michigan football during fall camp so far?

“I mean, Trey (Pierce), I feel like he’s doing a great job, obviously,” Mason Graham continued. “More in the run game, too, I feel like he’s a stout guy who can take on blocks and get off blocks. Brooks is more like a longer guy. Same thing with him, I feel like he has some developing to do, but he has very high potential, and he’s making good plays. And obviously Cam Brandt, I feel like he’s one of those top-end guys that came in, one of the standout freshmen that I feel like has opened many people’s eyes.”

As I mentioned, the 2023 Michigan Wolverines roster is brimming with talent. Consequently, several of these freshman defensive tackles, along with freshmen in other positions, might have limited opportunities to play this fall — nonetheless, while Harbaugh’s 2023 signing class might not have appeared to be the strongest on paper, reports suggest that numerous hidden gems are currently scattered throughout the roster.
