At this point, all Michigan football fans are familiar with Jadyn Davis. Davis is likely the most coveted and essential recruit in the Wolverines’ 2024 recruiting class — he is a five-star composite quarterback, ranked the No. 19 player in the nation, the No. 3 quarterback in his class, and the No. 1 2024 prospect in North Carolina.
2024 will be rising junior JJ McCarthy’s final year of eligibility in the Maize and Blue — after that, it’s time to find his replacement. It appears that Jim Harbaugh and his staff are set on landing Jadyn Davis and has no backup plan if he falls through.
Michigan football throwing everything at Davis
After losing out on Dante Moore — another five-star QB prospect — to Oregon (and then UCLA), the Wolverines realized that their next-best bet would be Jadyn Davis. Like Moore’s recruitment, Michigan football appears to need a backup plan if he falls through, yet does not have one in place.
According to 247 Sports, Davis is the only quarterback Michigan is pursuing in the 2024 freshman class. While Davis is a favorite to land in Ann Arbor with five crystal balls (all for Michigan), there are no guarantees regarding college football recruiting.
The four schools that are hot with Davis are Michigan, North Carolina, Penn State, and Tennessee. As I’ve said, the Wolverines are heavy favorites to land Davis when the time comes, but those schools are all known for being aggressive recruiters with heavy NIL support.
Wolverines have sent in the closer
Davis’ primary recruiter at Michigan was former co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss, who was recently fired amidst a university police-led investigation into computer access crimes in December of 2022. Since then, the Wolverines have sent in the big guns: head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Jim Harbaugh is now the head man when it comes to the recruitment of Jadyn Davis. As Davis is a must-get for the Wolverines, it makes sense that Michigan sees it fit to send in Jim Harbaugh as a closer. Additionally, new QB coach Kirk Campbell already has good relations with Davis and his family, which is another good sign for the Wolverines’ chances to land the five-star commitment.
