Michigan football got some good news on the recruiting trail on Monday, but it didn’t stop with the commitment of four-star defensive lineman Jaylen Williams.

The Wolverines got more good news on the trail as Joseph Hastings of On3 reported that Ivan Taylor, a four-star safety committed to Notre Dame, will take an official visit to Michigan football on June 21.

Using the word elite to describe Taylor is justified. He’s ranked 50th overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot, 174-pound safety out of Winter Garden, Florida, has been committed to Notre Dame since last December.

Michigan football has a shot at Ivan Taylor

However, the son of former NFL standout Ike Taylor, is visiting some other programs and Michigan football is one of them. Holland called Taylor a cornerback and he can certainly play that position too even though he’s ranked fifth among safeties in his class.

It’s the second flip candidate this week that will take a visit to Michigan. EJ Holland of The Wolverine also reported on Sunday, that Shamari Earls, a four-star cornerback committed to South Carolina, will take an unofficial visit to campus next week.

That’s a positive development in its own right. Getting Taylor to Ann Arbor for an official visit is huge. It tells you that the Wolverines are a true contender to pull off a flip. Taylor just visited Alabama last weekend so this news isn’t coming out of left field. The blue-chip defensive back is looking around and maybe Michigan football will end up as the right place for him.
